Action Based Learning from Agylia redefines the 70:20:10 learning model

Category: News

Agylia is delighted to announce the launch of its new Action Based Learning capability.

This powerful new approach provides organisations with an innovative way to take learning out of the formal learning environment and propel it into real, practical learning situations.

Tim Buff, CEO and Chief Learning Strategist at Agylia said, “Action Based Learning encourages organisations to move beyond a focus on formal eLearning and social learning - the 10% and 20% - to one where they inspire their learners to actively apply training and knowledge in job and role related tasks and activities - addressing the 70% of learning that takes place in the workplace.”

Using Action Based Learning, managers, lecturers or mentors can assign practical tasks and activities for learners to complete - outside the confines of the Learning Management System (LMS) - such as ‘conduct a mentoring meeting’, ‘video yourself completing a mechanical repair’, ‘write a report or essay’ or maybe ‘deliver a stand up presentation’.

A variety of different Action Based Learning tasks and activities can be combined with other types of training to create comprehensive learning pathways and curricula.

Learners can upload reports, presentations, videos, photographs, certificates and other forms of evidence to show completion of their action based and external learning activities. With full support for the latest Experience API (Tin Can) standard, Agylia provides the flexibility to record and track learning - undertaken inside and outside of the LMS - providing organisations and the individual with a comprehensive record of their complete learner journey.

Action Based Learning is an integral part of the Agylia LMS - a mobile, flexible and global LMS - that enables organisations to schedule, target and deliver a wide range training, reference and performance support materials, including eLearning, videos, documents and external learning activities.

Action Based Learning activities are also supported via the range of Agylia mobile learning Apps - available for iOS, Android and Windows devices. Using the Apps, learners are able to undertake Action Based Learning activities and record and upload evidence of them, in addition to having access to an array of centrally provided digital learning and support resources on their mobile devices.

“Action Based Learning is a game changer for digital learning. It enables organisations to combine the 10% of formal learning that the organisation provides in multiple formats, with the 20% of social and collaborative learning, and the 70% of practical tasks, activities and problem solving. This approach provides a complete end-to-end learning environment which is both easy-to-use and immensely educationally effective,” concluded Buff.
